What is Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy is an aesthetic procedure first performed by Dr. Michel Pistor in 1950. It involves the injection of certain medications into the middle layer of the skin using micro-needles. The most common areas of application are the face, neck, décolleté area, and hands.

When is Mesotherapy Applied?

Mesotherapy can be applied to anyone who complains of sagging skin, wrinkles, discoloration, dryness, and hair loss, as it is performed to eliminate the effects that occur due to aging. When hyaluronic acid, collagen, and elastin, which are the basic building blocks of the skin, decrease in the body due to age, the skin loses its elasticity, color, and brightness. Especially in aged skin, a dry and dehydrated skin type emerges. The drying skin begins to wrinkle due to wear. The procedures carried out to treat skin cells to escape from this cycle are called mesotherapy.

Mesotherapy is also used for the following purposes:

  • Cellulite treatment
  • Hair loss treatment
  • Scar revision (healing of scar tissue on the skin)
  • Facial rejuvenation
  • Local (regional) fat reduction treatment

In anti-aging applications, various methods are employed to stop aging. The aim of mesotherapy is to treat skin cells and ensure their renewal. Recently, mesotherapy performed for facial rejuvenation has been called the 'youth vaccine.' Mesotherapy involves procedures aimed at resynthesizing and renewing the protein structures under the skin.

In mesotherapy applications, hyaluronic acid and amino acids (glycine, proline, lysine, leucine, alanine, and valine) are injected into the middle dermis layer under the skin. Due to the insufficient amount of amino acids in the body, the skin loses its elasticity, and sagging and wrinkles appear due to aging. After the application, collagen production accelerates, so wrinkles and sagging in the skin are reduced, and the skin appears brighter. Amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins, make up 20% of the body's total weight. Amino acids play an important role in all structures and functions of the human body.

How is Mesotherapy Applied?

In the mesotherapy procedure, substances suitable for the person's needs are injected into the skin. The needles used are very fine and compatible with the skin. Before the application, the face area is numbed with an anesthetic cream, thereby minimizing pain and discomfort.

When Does the Effect of Mesotherapy Appear?

Although the effect generally appears in a short time, it may vary depending on the area applied. For instance, if mesotherapy is applied for under-eye bags, you will see the effect in the first session. However, if it is applied to get rid of cellulite or regional fat, you will need to wait for 2-3 sessions.

A noticeable change in the skin appears within an average of 7-10 days. The effect is known to last up to 6 months. Additionally, when combined with other rejuvenation applications such as microneedling, laser, and botox, the effect becomes apparent in a shorter time.

How Many Sessions of Mesotherapy Are Required?

Mesotherapy should be done for at least 3-6 sessions, depending on the needs of the skin.

Who Should Not Have Mesotherapy?

It can be applied to any healthy individual over the age of 18. However, this treatment cannot be applied to insulin-dependent diabetics, cancer patients, and pregnant or breastfeeding women.

What Should Be Considered While Having Mesotherapy?

Patients recently come for procedures by giving brand names influenced by social media. This is incorrect. Mesotherapy products are very diverse and contain different substances. Your dermatologist, who knows your skin best, will determine your need and choose the most suitable product for you to perform your treatment.
